Why is Kindergarten Orientation important?
We aim to provide families with children starting school in 2025 the opportunity to experience our school environment in a fun and exciting way.
Through play, our teachers will focus on some of the skills required to start Kindergarten as well as encourage your child to explore by engaging in activities that will build their confidence and risk taking as learners.
This may be a child's first experience of social interaction with others outside their immediate or extended family. We will endeavour to make this a positive experience for all children so they look forward to starting school with us next year.
Children's perceptions of themselves as learners, and as someone who belongs at school, are often formed early in their schooling. Orientation will assist in achieving a positive start to school.
Why Busby Public School?
Our teachers are dedicated to implementing quality lessons that embrace the diverse learning needs of all students. We support our students with identified needs, by employing School Learning Support Officer's (SLSO) to assist students in accessing the curriculum to the best of their ability. Our Assistant Principals- Curriculum and Instruction, assist our teachers in delivering high quality learning experiences through in-school professional learning that targets individual student needs.
Learning at Busby Public School
Learning to read and write is one of the most important things we do as children. Here at Busby Public School, our students are immersed in rich language programs that promote speaking and listening skills, along with the skills needed to read and write. Students receive explicit instruction in reading and writing strategies in small groups targeted to meet their specific learning needs. They also engage in short periods of independent, individual or group tasks to practise and consolidate their current literacy learning.
Busby Public School Information Booklet
Inside this booklet we have some general information around what time school starts, pick up and drop off, school learning and activities.
Pick-up and drop off
Students are dropped off at the gate to the infants playground under the cola. There is a teacher and support staff on duty every morning to greet the students.
At 3pm parents can pick up their children at the gate to the infants cola. Once the teacher sees you, your child will be sent out of the gate.
Uniforms
Uniforms are available for purchase 8:30am - 1pm daily. You will find an order form below that you can download, fill out and bring to school with you when you are ready.
Absences
Principals are legally responsible for keeping accurate records of student attendance. Principals are also responsible for deciding if the reason given for an absence is justified.
As a parent or carer of one of our students, you will need to inform the school that your child will be away and the reason why your child will be absent from school. When a child has been marked absent an SMS is automatically sent to parents. You can reply to this text message explaining the absence or alternatively you can notify the school by:
- Calling the school - 9607-7211
- Using the School Bytes App
- Send a note to the class teacher the next day with your child.
If the school has not received an explanation for a child’s absence, the class teacher will send you an Absentee Notice which needs to be returned within 7 days of receipt.
Canteen
Our school canteen is open everyday for recess and lunch. Students can order their lunch by writing out a bag with their name, class, what they would like to order and the correct money. When they go to class the lunch order is to be placed in the green tub to be sent to the canteen.
Alternatively our school is now online with Flexischools. This app allows parents to order and pay for their students lunches via the app or online. Simply download the app or register online at www.flexischools.com.au/parents. It is easy to register and create an account.
Our Discovery Time Program is specifically targeted at Kindergarten students and provides a rich range of experiences which allows for students to develop their oral language and social skills as they engage with one another.
The experiences that are provided to the students each week are thoughtfully developed to provoke ideas, encourage problem solving and allow students to explore the world around them.
All Key Learning Areas are covered during Discovery Time, in either a guided or independent format, consolidating learning from formal class lessons.
Student interests are an integral part of the planning process and the constructions, creative activities and dramatic play in which students are engaged in, promotes the development of their knowledge, understandings and skills.
