Today is Indigenous Literacy Day and you have the opportunity to join the virtual event which will enlighten and engage K- 6 students in song, stories and language.
The event will be hosted by dynamic performer, best selling author, musician, artist and Indigenous Literacy Foundation ambassador, Gregg Dreise, a proud descendant from the Goomeri and Yuwalayaay people in south western Queensland and north west of New South Wales.
And of course, to add a touch of celebrity charm, we have a special guest appearance by Australia’s favourite pop singer and ILF ambassador, Jessica Mauboy.
This 25-minute event includes two delightful animations illustrating kriol language:
1. Yakai Beibigel
2. Tudei en longtaim
Students will delight in the fun and interactive nature of the event – from yelling out "Yakai Gregg!" everytime they see a twirling, whirling boomerang, to singing and moving along with Gregg’s lively performance. Students will take a virtual flight to the Tiwi Islands to join local children at the island swimming hole and on a hunt for mussels in the mangroves.
What a way to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day!
The event can be found at this link this morning at 9am
If you miss the event (or you want to watch it again) the link will be active until the 6th December 2021.
